How do I Remove factory security module, can It be removed, can It be sold with the fobs? Or is it married to that particular Bike?
09 flht, never wanted it anyway, it is a PITA
Rick
I never have, and never will use the security system so I asked my dealership mechainc friend what I needed to do to more or less get rid of it.
He told me to take the FOB (or whatever it's called), throw it in a drawer, and my bike will never know that it even has a security system installed.
That's exactly what I did, and I've never had a problem, even after unhooking the battery and doing other type of electrical stuff.
the only downside I have, is to remember to bring it when I'm going riding. if I turn the bike off, it won't restart if the FOB isn't within 20/25 ft from the bike.
Not sure what model\year you have, but on my 02 Deuce the Security Module is integrated with the Turn Signal circuitry (all in one module) called the TSM\TSSM.
Being my system is older it does not have a proximity feature.
Like already said, I would just throw the FOB is a drawer and don’t activate it… No harm done.

That must be something dealing with the security system on the newer bikes, as it sounds like you are saying there is no way to just 'turn it off' and throw away the FOB.
On my 2003 if I don't 'set' the security system it's the same as not even having the system installed.
I don't even remember offhand where the FOB is, as it was a couple years ago when I took it and threw it in a drawer somewhere.

The newer systems, like the one on my 08 Sporty, use a buttonless fob. There is no 'arming' or 'disarming' the alarm manually. You have to have the fob on your person for the system to allow the bike to start.

Interesting....
But that's too much technology for me, and it seems that the more technology that add to a vehicle the more things that can go wrong when you least expect.
I like being able to just 'turn on the ignition', 'hit the start button', and go.
I still haven't forgiven the auto makers for getting rid of the manual crank windows and doorlocks on cars and trucks, and at least a couple of my Harley's still have a 'kicker' on them along with a rear chain final drive.
