Default 1927 Harley JD

I have always like Harleys and I found a 1927JD in pieces right now. It has the orignal motor, tranny, fenders, etc but the chassis is a correct 1927 jd but it is from a different bike. This would be my first bike to rebuild and I wanted to know what I should look to pay for this as well as how the collectlablty is affected. If anyone could help me I would really appericate it.

I'd guess it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for that box of parts. you know it's gonna cost you an arm and a leg to restore it - but, if that's what you wanna do - I say go for it and don't skimp on anything!! do it right!

Well it does have a rolling chassis but it is missing the tool kit, head light, tail light, battery box. I was wondering how much it is worth and effect the chassis being from another jd would have on it

it sounds like you want to restore it for re-sale, right?

From a collector view , if it was to be sold , the frame would take a hit .. If you're buying it to keep , not a problem ..

Whats it worth ??

In 1979 , if I would have had $12500 , I could have bought a 95% '29 JD in running order ..

Still kicking myself on that one ..

I am buying it to restore but I don't want to put all the time and money into a bike that could never be sold. It seems like the 4k he is asking for it makes it a steal so I didnt know if not having the orignal frame made that much of a difference.

Well how big of a hit is a grey area , I doubt it could be called a 100% restoration if everything were correct otherwise ..

Me personally , if I was in the market for it , I would have paid the man 4 grand so fast his head would have been swimming .. But I wouldnt be interested in ever selling either ..

You have to look at what condition everything is in .. It isnt an easy undertaking , and I dont know your skills , but a lot would probably be best left to someone who restores for a living and does fantastic work ..

You can easily put a large amount of cash into it and not get your money back when you sell it .. Very easy to do ..

Like BaggerDriver says, you can put a lot of time and money into a resto and never get your money back.It is true with any hobby. You can sell anything, depends on what people are willing to give.It would make an interesting conversation piece. If you are serious, and get into the resto, you will meet some great people.Good Luck

Assuming parts aren't really difficult to find/or are very expensive I'd say it could be a really fun project and then alot of fun to ride. A truly classic H-D to enjoy and be proud of. Who cares what it's worth IMHO. Yes, it'll still be worth a decent dollar because of what it is. You won't win any restoration shows with it perhaps if not 100% pure and correct but again have fun with it if you want and have the skills to tackle it.

If you decide not to undertake sauch a project please let me know. I just finished a WLA and would very much be interested in this bike.
