What are the disadvantages of a full face helmet? I am helmet shopping and and looking for pro's and con's of the different ones..Also if I don't go with a full face-are there certain types of glasses to get that don't fly off?
Thanks------
Full face can be hot but that's about it. Why not get a few? As far as glasses I bought a 36 dollar pair of Harley glasses and I really enjoy them so no need to buy the 150 ones. I'd just suggest trying on all different types of helmets and get what you like.
In my option, I feel like a full face helmet restricts your peripheral vision too much, I wear mine if it is extremely cold or raining, as far as the glasses, I have the $150 pair, and can't ride wearing them, they allow too much air in around the lens and my eyes water then, I found an $8.00 pair that has a foam cushion around the lens. it seals out most of the wind, great for riding.
Weight, hot head, restricted peripheral vision... But protects the noggin!
I dont think you will have a problem of the glasses flying off. Now having said that i was with some buddies and we were on a huge binefit ride, he looked back at the long line of bikes behind us and his glasses flew right off. Hit the guy behind him in the windshield.
Skid lid and Airfoils goggles (under $30 for each). Also wear a Fulmer Modus for road trips and cold weather. Don't let anybody kid you, the full face is the best for extreme heat - was riding in Tucson this summer and kept my do-rag wet under it. The wind through the vents acted like air conditioning as invented by the Zuni Indians in Arizona. Leaving my skin exposed in 107+ weather was painful.
OK I have this one and love it. Don't think I paid this much. I added the shield (dark tint). It opens and closes nicely. I ride I-696 in Michigan and am getting pelted with crap all the time. Shield down. When I get off and ride along the Lake St Clair shoreline, Shield up.
When I know I will be around town all day, I snap off the shield and put on the visor.
Used to wear glasses and had Laser done. Now I buy tinted and clear wrap around safety glasses at Walmart for $4.99 ea. Look good, fit good. right price.
ive never owned a full face that restricted my vision...but then again ive always owned mid to upper range lids...alot of people are turned off of full face's because they get a lower brand cheap model...if you do decide on a full face go with a shoei, agv, arai, soumy, or scorpion...i personally wouldnt consider any other brands as the upper range of FF are an unbelievable difference
Heat and vision. Heat is not noticeable to me until above 85 degrees. If you get one with a large "viewport" the vision restriction is not that noticeable.
Don't forget about the advantages. Wind noise is much less. I usually ride on the highways with no windshield at all--a total no-go with my half helmet. In the rain it's a must. You can put speakers inside the helmet. And of course protection.

Went I started riding I used the full face helmet all the time. It just got way to hot in the summer months. Then I got a 3/4 helmet with a face shield and made a big difference. The only time I use the full face helmet now is when it's below 45 degrees.
I seem to buy helmets like most women buy shoes!! In fact I just bought another one this past weekend! I mostly wear my full face. It pretty much does everything for me! Keeps the wind noise out, protects the chin. I wear prescription glasses so I can wear them and no red eyes. I don't like the vision difference though. I does take away some. I also put a sun shield on, I like that. I live in AZ, and any helmet actually protects my head from the sun. So really, the only negative I experience on full-face is the vision.
