how often do you shift incorrectly. like downshifting instead of upshifting or vice versa.
have you ever stopped at a light and not been in first. you are sure you checked it and downshifted all the way, but then you start off and ....................
how about coming up to a turn and downshifting but the gear is too high for you speed and you end up downshifting once or more before you can find a gear that will propel the bike. obviously slowing down until the right gear is found.
ever rev up and attempt to start off at a light only to find out you were in neutral.
ever let you clutch out thinking you were in neutral and .......................
ever downshifted to pass somebody and then get close to red line and then shift again - the wrong way.
not talking from experience here, just stories that i have heard.
OK... have done about all that stuff. And sometimes still do!
Worst was when a kid on a Harley 165. The gear shift return spring was broken so I had to gently tap it down a tad before continuing to upshift. While goofin off once, wound it up real tight in second and tried to speed shift to third but tapped it down too hard... into first. Broke the primary chain and a piston ring. sheeeeesh
Occassionally when turning or downshifting, I'm not sure what gear I was in so I down shift to one and then back up to two without letting the clutch out. The other stuff I don't do and haven't in a long time. With Harley's, you can tell if you goofed before letting the clutch all the way out if you're in the wrong gear.
