Hate to admit but ima fair-weather rider when i'm on my bike and i know it's gonna be a soaker I'll ride before the rain hits. But when i get home i got another toy, i call the beast, an ole 89 jeep wrangler, lifted and fitted! ready to play in the mud. thats what i'm talking about!
I ride no matter the weather. As of right now the bike is my only method of transportation. but even when my truck was running I usually rode the bike no matter what, dso no truck no biggie.
Here in Washington State, If we had to wait for the rain to stop nothing would ever get done. Riding in the rain, no problem. I stop when it starts to turn white!!
You are in gorgeous country, but you do get the rain all right. Just move about 500 miles S. to southern Oregon and it will turn into California weather.
It hasn't rained here in at least 2 months so I'm spoiled. I wouldn't run errands in the rain just because I don't want to clean the scoot.
planned to ride to the cape 1 year not far 250 miles. had the dog in the kennel ,week off from work everthing packed woke up at 3am and it is pouring real hard i went anyway i almost turned around at the end of my road as i was all ready soaked, it cleared up 5 minutes after i arived and was perfect for the whole week .i drove 45 the whole way 6.5 hours fun!
The rains are torrential here in Japan. I did not ride at all the last two weeks of August. I hate the rain and avoid it at all costs. But I do get caught from time to time. Me and the wife were out on Sunday and got caught in a downpour about 2mi from home. Now she knows why I hate the rain.

I would take the truck for the errand, other than that I probably wouldn't change my plans unless weatherbug had tons of huge thunderstorms coming through. I have spent some pretty good times in cheesy diners talking to waitresses, eating eggs and bacon, and waiting for a thunderstorm to blow on through. Those are good memories. I don't have raingear other than my leathers so I usually depend on a break in the rain to blow dry me. I got soaked last week by the remnants of Gustav in KY and did alter my return route to go east - away from the rain - before going south. I was soaked in the first 50 miles - jeans and boots dripping wet - then dried out in the sun over the next 50 miles. Wasn't so bad.
Also, reading all these posts I am sure glad I have an old bike. I wouldn't know what to do for 8 hours cleaning it. When I got back I washed it down with water and a rag, dried it, and threw a little wax on the tank - took maybe 30 minutes. Just not a big cleaner I guess.
Another Washington rider here.I dont use the bike for runnin around when its raining.Too many nuts out there and I dont need to.If Im going on a trip and its raining,I go.Rain is not going to ruin a trip.
