you have some errands to run. gonna take the bike. check outside and its raining. will you drive instead.
me - for a quick trip like that - i will almost always drive instead or ride.
you are leaving on a trip. wanna leave in the morning. you get up ready to go and it is raining. how heavy does it have to be before you will put off leaving.
me - heavy rain, i will wait. steady rain or light rain and i will go. thunderstorms forcasted, i might really check the forcast and see what up for the rest of the day.
you are on a trip and on the road and ............ it starts raining. when do you pull over.
me - this is almost more based on wind. i can ride in fairly heavy rain and since i am in it alreay, might as well keep going. if it is so heavy that i can't see, then off the road with me. if i can't see, not good, but worse is that others might not see me.
but riding in rain doesn't really bother me. depends moer on other factors like wind, time of day (rain and night aren't always a good mixture), traffic, road conditions, etc.
and this might sound weird, and although i prefer non rain, riding in rain does have a certain appeal to it, as long as i have my rain suit on and am dry. kinda like camping in a tent and being in rain.
Always said "I don't do rain" but then went on a road trip to Canada where I literally rode for days in the rain. Didnt have the right rain gear so I was soaked to the bone. Learned alot from it and have no fear of doing it again. And of course I'll be better prepared.
But I would only do it if I got stuck away from home and had no choice. If for no other reason I don't want to spend 8 hours cleaning the baked on gunk off the bike.
Only thing I really hated about riding in rain was having to wash the bike later.. But since I pretty much quit doin that all season now.. I just ride..
If I'm taking a trip and it's raining, I would probably still go, unless there is hail too. I also don't mind riding in the rain, if I have the proper rain gear. Its the several hours spent cleaning the bike that I don't like.
Remember what happened to the Wicked Witch of the West (no, not the house on her sister) when Dorothy through water on her? Still gives me the ******* when I'm ridin' the bike.
I enjoy riding in light rain but not in heavy traffic. Generally if it's raining, I drive a car but I've ridden in all kinds of rain storms. I've ridden in about 3 heavy down pours this season. If rain is forcast in the afternoon but it's sunny in the morning, I ride.
