How cold is too cold.

+1. Around here, even the road up to my house is very winding (posted 15 mph curves) and shaded, and somewhat steep. It can hold ice in the shady spots very easily.

I just hang it up below 35 degrees and even then if it's been colder over night, those shady corners may still be slick.

I can ride all the way down to freezing. It's no problem. Once your body goes numb from the cold, you don't feel it.

i rode one year it was 29 degree. i was working nights at the time . and when i went in it was like 75 and when i got off. the temp had drop like a rock. i had about 5 miles to ride to get home. and man i thought my forehead was going to crack open.but for the norm i ride in the 40's anything under that i pass enless on the weekend where i can dress better for the ride.

As long as the roads are clear..
I actually fired up the bike one winter day at 18 below zero.. put on all my cold riding gear and a full face helmet and stopped at every one of the patches house's who had been whinin about the cold..
I Wouldn't recommend it..

If it's too cold for the bike to start I take the truck. If it starts..I'm riding.
Coldest has been in the teens.

I can do 40 all day long with just normal leathers, jeans and heavier gloves. I'll start bundling up a little more with polypropylenes etc depending on the length of ride and temp. When it gets to about 20-25 I consider taking the subaru unless I'm REAL deperate to ride.

I ride all year long unless it is snowing or icey my best to date was about -6. just a bit Nipply but nice clear day.

Why wouldn't a wind chill calculation work since you are creating your own wind velocity??

I dont know how cold it was, but I was riding on New Years day acouple of years ago here in Indiana. We all had our Carharts on!
