Clean when it needs it. I'm not fanatical about it but for me it's as much a maintenance issue as looks. Dirt not only makes things where out faster and can cause things to malfunction, it also hides potential problems. I only discovered a crack in the tailwheel bracket of my airplane because I was cleaning it at the time. If I'd left it dirty, I never would have seen the crack and would have had a real problem some day when it decided to give way. I've also noticed my chrome wheels rust if I don't keep them clean, so that's another incentive. A clean bike is going to last longer.

I'm kinda **** about my Sportster... $2000.00 paint job and a ton of chrome... It don't go out without being clean...

Now the XBones... not so much... she's pretty dirty right now... but she's the step child of the two... ya' gotta kind of expect it...

Some of the chemicals in the dirt can eat porous pits in the metal though....

Over the years I've mastered the quick detail so I always keep the bike showroom clean.

I always seem to get a lot of interest in my "new" HD so I love the looks I get when I tell people I have over 71,000 miles on the King!

Who says you can't have it both ways!

I got my bike to ride, not clean. It gets a bath about every month.
