End of 69 (late November) I come home from my War. Pop has has a brand new 70 FLH waiting for me. I paid cash for it from Sam Arena, San Jo Kali. Within 10 months I have to take the motor down 2X because the left front motor mount is breaking. Each time I take it to the dealer, they blow me off. Turns out the flywheels were out of balance. Sam Arena could give a **** less. Pop helps me fix it, I sell the Shovel and get a 65 Pan that has been w/ me ever since.

Sounds like you have a modern day problem that can be traced back to the Stealership and old day issues. You gotta decide whether to suck it up, fix it and keep it, or fix it, dump it and get something that will work for you.

Feel your pain. Been there...done it!

Bunch of crap that the MoCo won't stand behind a stinkin' casting! Now that I've thought about it , I'd buy an aftermarket engine like an Ultima or S & S , bolt it in the proudly park m y pickup in front of the stealership with the engine displayed the age, miles and string fishing line through a bunch of lemons and wrap the engine with that like a damn Christmas tree , EVERY WEEKEND . After a while the stealership might figure the embarassment might be enough to just do something for you. If nothing else , would be fun for several months , just to see dealer & other folks reaction.

Don't know your mileage but have you contacted MoCo customer no-service. It can't hurt to make them aware of your problem. Good Luck

It's a mechanical device, designed and built by humans. Some are gonna fail.
That said, I like the 'lemon' garland gig.
IF after wranglin' with 'em, the MoCo won't come thru for ya, and you have to bite the bullet, do as suggested above, snap up on a big inch Ultima, or S&S. We have had very good luck with the Ultima 124. More snoose than one really needs, but a lot of bang for the 'buck', IMHO.
Too bad it is an 05.... http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/838140483.html Larry can get a deal out the back door on these critters, that is just unreal. Saves THOUSANDS.
Good luck with it.
Sort of off topic, but Panz4ever hit on a topic from a week or so ago. Ppl asking about the HD sound, and idling the motor 'way down' to get that 'potato' sound, and the 'lope'. HARD on flywheels. Can, and has, knocked them outta balance. Can be BAD enough to take out a case once in a while. At best, will drive you out of the saddle from the vibration. Thanx, Panz.

Check out ebay if you don't care about matching numbers. I have seen TC 88 engines as cheap as $1500. Don't spend the big buck with HD, if you want new get an Ultima or other after market engine like gumby says.

'05 must have been a bad year for castings. My '05 Ultra Classic had porus engine cases, which were replaced under warranty.

I strongly recommend doing this! But be polite and no swearing. You are a disappointed owner with a problem seeking help and what do they suggest?

It is a very long time ago now, but the only time I had really major problems with a bike was with a particular model of BSA, which broke its conrod and did horrible damage, to valves, cam followers, piston and cylinder. A close friend had the same model and the same problem around the same time. He took the rude shouting abusive approach and got nothing out of the factory, while I took the polite approach and got most of my costs back.

That is likely to be the least expensive way! Having said that I have just fitted an S&S to my Harley....

....but through choice, not because I had any problems!
