When I bought my Fatboy, the coil cover was engraved with a Winged Bar and Shield and "FATBOY". It also had the previous owner's name engraved between the Bar and Shield and the "FATBOY". I don't know how long it had been on there but, there was no sign of flaking of the chrome. I loved the look but, didn't want the PO's name on there. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyone to engrave a new cover for me. I'm hoping I'll find a vendor at the Myrtle Beach rally in May who does it.

Has anyone ever engraved items off their bike? Will it eventually cause the chrome to peel or flake?
Depends on what material the chrome is on. If it starts to rust the chrome will start peeling (this is the most common cases). It's like you gets a scratch in the chrome, it will corrode and peel if you dont coat it with clear laquer (sorry for bad spelling but you understand, don't you?) or wax it constantly.
