My Army boots are worn thin too...second and last pair since 1961. Uppers and inside are still good, so I think I will have them resoled and heeled. Have two shoe repair shops in town, kinda hard to see how they stay in business, but one will have my boots.

Ditto on Wescos. If you want something lighter, try a pair of Magnums. Living in Washington, you've got to deal with the rain. The Magnum folks make some great comfortable, waterproof boots and they're pretty reasonably priced.

Love my Cruiserworks, but they might not be American made. Mine (purchased in '02) were made in Canada. The new ones have been made in South America, but the company is American, and now apparently have a company in Ohio making them, but the web site does not say where the factory is.

If you wear out the soles in a year, you must be dragging your feet ! I'm on the original soles, and they can be rebuilt for about $80.

If you have a narrow foot, as I do, their Tour boot is made in narrow sizes. They are totally waterproof, and are by far the most comfortable boot I've ever owned.
