I love 58 across southern VA - but you probably know that one. Of course the Natchez Trace has lots of historic stuff but it is slow (and don't speed or carry cause they are apparently federal offenses there). Rt 66 should be easy enough and it basically parallels I-40 so you can jump on and off when you want. I'd also recommend the OKC Memorial - I think it is one of the finest memorials ever constructed (sorry it had to be).

Thanks for your service. As you travel across this amazing country you should feel a great sense of accomplishment for having protected it in our behalf. You earned a little piece of every mile. Ride safe.

You could ride Skyline drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to Cherokee. Then you are not far from Deal's Gap or the Cherohala Skyway. A stop in Maggie Valley at the Wheels Through Time museum if you have time.

When you leave VA, see if you can swing down to the south and knockout the Dragon on your way out west. Also, it's a bit out of the way to AZ, but if you can swing through SE Utah (Moab) the scenery is unreal and well worth the extra miles....

Watie, A big thanks for your service and congratulations on your retirement. If you haven't ridden the BlueRidge Parkway (or even if you have), that would be a great way to start your trip. Hwy 64 across TN is a good ride also if you want to avoid the interstates.
