Thanks swwilson...........You know I usually do put that disclaimer in there, but this time I didn't and it may bite me in the butt. I was planning on letting paypal sort this out, I was just curious what the popular opinion here was.

IMHO the buyer had a reasonable expectation that the pipes would fit based on *your* product description. He won your auction and then executed the purchase using PayPal as the payment vehicle. Nice and clean transaction.

By your own admission you listed an erroneous, but not flagrant product description. Had you caveatted your description with something to the effect of "Because models vary, the buyer should check wwwx.URL.xcom for their specific application." Then the buyer could reasonably share in the error, and assume some of the responsibility.

However, in this case the buyer completed the purchase in good faith, and you need to do the right thing and return the buyers money. This was your mistake and you should eat the shipping costs for the return too.

The pipes don't fit his bike. You did not say that you would not accept returns in your auction. You also have it listed as free shipping. And if you look all the way down at the bottom, it says "Seller assumes all responsibility for listing this item."

It does not matter if the covers are aftermarket or standard. Give the man his money back.

I for one, will never purchase anything from you. And if I ever see you bid on any of my ebay items, I will remove your bid. Good night.

If the axle nut cover is not standard equipment than I think you're doing the right thing by offering a refund if he pays the shipping. There is no parts seller who can possibly list every after market part that may interfere with the way a part mounts to the bike. If he did not specifically ask if the pipes would fit over the axle nut cover and it's an after market part than I say you're in the right.

Not according to how I read your post. You told him yourself that the pipes would fit his bike. He relied on your word.

Now, back to honor and how good your word is.

All I hear from you is rationalizing, which is not about honor.

How much would you be willing to sell you honor for? $200?

This whole thread reminds me of what a lot of people do on here: ask for opinions, don't get the ones they want to hear so they argue or **** and moan. That being said, to make YOU feel better, here ya go:

Don't give him back a dime, f- him! The jerk has no right to expect money back from something you told him would fit his bike! How dare he!! In fact, I'd go to his house and kick his a$$!!

There, feel better?

Exactly, case closed. Any mods done to the bike are his responsibility to deal with. If it came stock on the bike, refund.

I always put what the manufacturer says, but there is a something I add to my auctions that has always kept me safe:

YEARS STATED ARE PER MANUFACTURER, I CANNOT DO NOT GUARANTEE FITMENT ON ALL BIKES. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO VERIFY FITMENT ON YOUR MODEL, THIS SALE AS-IS WITH NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES.

I never agree an item will fit a bike when people ask me, I always just say, "It may, but you'll need to check with your local dealer to verify that."

The buyer is the one spending a fair amount of money. It's his responsibility to determine whether he's buying the correct parts or not. He should have done more research. It's one thing to accept an ad from a manufacturer's website at face value; it's quite another to put that much faith in an eBay ad.

I would be really interested in knowing if other manufacturers state that they won't fit this model if you don't take off the axle nut cover which may or may not have been standard on this particular model. I that being said, I think your offer was fair. Lesson learned, ALWAYS put in a disclaimer when selling ANY item anywhere.
