Default Rust !!!!!

Couldn't beleive my eyes. I found a huge honking patch of surface rust.

Bought my 05 Road King with 10k on her at the dealer last November, trailer her home the 120 miles, go around the block a few times then put her in the basement for winter.

Laying on the floor the other night beside her with a flash light, my basement is dimly lite. And I look up and see this huge patch of rust up under the neck. In front of the tank on the under side of the frame. Below the neck.

If looks like a bloody scoop so I guess when the bike was ridden in the rain it just funneled the water in to it?

So either they don't spray paint in there or they missed it in the painting process at the plant.

So I'm almost freaking out, my New Baby has got cancer already and I haven't even taken her out yet .

So what should i do? I figure i got a few options?

1. Buy some rust spray paint and blast up away at the area? ( looks like only light surface rust so far)

2. Sand bast the area and primer and paint? ( over kill maybe)

3. See if it's covered under warranty and take it in to the dealer? ( not holding out hope on this one)

What do all you think I should do?

Have a look at the pictures.....looks worse than I think it is.

whoops, not sure if I did those pictures right, sorry about that, 1st time uploading them.

The 1st one is the right side of the area where the rust is behind.

2nd photo is looking up at the area.

Can only see it when you shine a light up there.

Have you checked your bikes?

Am I the only one to have this problem?

Thanks for all the help I know I'm going to get.

Steve.

Covered under warranty. Let HD have a shot at it first & if they don't get it right then work on it yourself...

I don't believe a Jap virus has the right combination of oxidizers to attack a high antimony content steel like good ole Harley Davidson American Metal!!!! I would guess a domestic attack.[sm=drooldude.gif]

It looks like it's never seen paint, they (HD) might like to know that so they can adjust production painting in case you are not the only one.

This is a terrible event, I agree. I will mention that my cellar is high and dry however, anything metal will still form a rusty residue because of the humidity, I guess. Are other metal objects suffering in your cellar? I keep anything that might rust in the garage. Ive ruined some nice table saws and other tools by leaving them in the cellar over a winter. Just my .02cents.
