But all the touring bikes are 96A motors. The 96(A) motor has more power than the 96B motor.
I believe he is saying the B is great for all around touring. It works on the road or through small towns equally well. As far as the difference in power I don't thing its that much of a difference, 1-2HP maybe?

Rent each one for a day and make up your mind based on your riding style.
+1... This is the best thing you could do is spend a little money and try some different bikes to see what fits you the best. A little spent now will save you a lot of money in the long run!
I opted for a Street Bob and love it. Softails are great also. As has been said a few times before - but can't be overemphasized - you must ride them both. It's going to be a personal choice that only YOU can make.
Rent them both. You don't want to look back and say "I wish I..."
I was really looking close at a heritage until I rode a buddies SG, glad I did. Heritage isn't a bad ride at all, I just liked the touring frames a little bit better.
Softails wheel base is bigger by what an inch or two unless you get the softail standard.
If your gonna be carrying around a passenger get a softail. If your gonna be going on long hauls get a touring. If you wanna badass fast as **** bike that can handle the twisties get a dyna. You can rent a dyna but its not gonna have forward controls so youll feel cramped.
If you want looks and a crap load of accessories get the softail.
Cuz the dyna doesnt have much to choose from. I like my dyna but if i had to get another it would be a touring bike
Softail has a longer wheelbase??? My Dyna has a longer wheelbase than an '09 Softail Custom and a Softail Custom only has .3 of an inch longer wheelbase than a Super Glide....you can tell the difference in 1/3 of an inch wheelbase????
^^^Well, while researching my own softail standard, it's close to 2 1/2" longer than the same year dyna. When I park next to my buddies street bob, it's easy to see that mine is longer when the back tires are up against the curb:
