Bike Security Question
Just saying...
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I had a 3 month old Kawasaki H1 stolen while I was in class at UNLV. Now please don't anybody make any smart remarks please. That was back in the AMF days of Harley and that Kawasaki was the quickest thing on two wheels back then, if that is important. It wasn't to me, but that was my high school graduation present. Since motorcycles were my 'thing', I didn't want a car.
Although I didn't care for that bike too much, while it was scary quick it also vibrated like a buzzsaw, it still hurt to come out of class and see a vacant spot where it had been parked. I can only imagine how bad I would have felt if I had actually liked the bike. This is the reason for the OP asking about how to secure his bike when parked.
Personally, I use fork locks, disk locks, watch where I park, have a heavy chain that I sometimes use around the house, etc.. I sure some of you feel this is overkill. But even if it takes my a few minutes to lock and unlock my scooter, balance this against the fact that my H1 has been gone since 10/71. Well, the cops called me about a decade later because they had found the frame in the desert.
My insurance paid me more for the Kawasaki then my parents had paid for it new. And when I totaled my '05 883c a couple of years ago, that insurance company paid me about 1K less then I had paid for it. But I would still have rather had the 883c. Insurance is nice to have, but it is not a panacea.
