I feel your pain. Just put a Smart Charger harness on my 09 Ultra today and the battery was a bitch to get to. Standing back looking at it I think I may have to put the power commander (whenever they become available) under the side panel and thread the wire harness up to the ecm if the wire harness is long enough. If not then someone will come up with a solution. They always do.

I worked an entire weekend trying to fit my pcIII in my night train. I finally gave up & took it to an indy who did it. He says you just need to drop a bunch of Fbombs in there to get it to fit

I had my PCIII installed and dyno'd by the Dynojet Tuning Center here...they put mine into the mount for the alarm system (didn't want one when I bought the bike)...snapped in like it was made for it...

Do you still have the Stock Seat?
if so you should be able to fit the PC under the ECM unit into the tray and then sit the ECM on top...the difficulty is the positioning the connectors such that you can get the seat back on.

However if you have an aftermarket seat, you prob wont be able to fit the PC under the ECM. Haven't looked at a Sportster in a while, so not sure if the Softail solution will work on a Sportster...on the Softails, the PC unit accually is installed (ziplined) inbetween the plastic rear wheel mudguard
... have a look at the softail installation instructions:
http://www.powercommander.com/downlo...eng813-511.pdf

not sure if that helps, or if its possible on the nightster but might be a possible solution

I do still have the stock seat. Like you said, the PCIII fits perfectly under the ECM, but its those damned connectors.
I think I just need to overhead said and unhook all the wiring, fit the connector in, then rehook everything.

I have bigger problems to worry about now though... I hooked the bike back up stock (ECM only), and now it wont even start. The security system is going crazy (blinkers flashing) and I can't figure out why. I had to drive the cage to work this morning which just makes me grumpy.
