Never forget the day I checked into my first duty station, MCAS Tustin. I had just bought a car in Virginia and drove cross country to California. When I report in to M/Sgt Rhodes, he says, "Don't unpack kid, you ain't stayin." I says, "Where am I goin' Top?" He says, "Okinawa." I says, "I just bought a car, can I take it with me?" He says, "Son, if the Marine Corps wanted you to have a car, they'd have issued you one!" Two weeks later, I was in Okinawa.....without my car. Gotta love the Corps!
