Either things have REALLY changed since I was in the Corps or it's just that you are all working on OTHER services bases. When I was in it was decal on the front left side on a piece of the bike that was permanently attached, ie: forks, frame tubing or something else in the front that could not be easily removed. If you didn't like it then you didn't get to bring your bike on base.

I'm a civy on a Navy base now and I've got mine on the front of my quick detach wind shield.

It seems to be post/ service specific.

Best bet is to just talk to the MP/SF/USprotect when you get in and find out whats what. Worst case, you gotta go and get a new sticker.

Thanks for the replies. It's just a shame in Virginia we got all these decals stuck on the forks. When I got mine they stuck the inspection decal on the left fork and now that I got my base decal, I'm pretty sure I want to stick another decal on the forks. I like the idea of the front frame mount with a plate.

Boy it sure would be nice if someone manufactured a quick detachable plate that you could mount to your down tubes or tripple trees where you could just remove it when you are off base if you chose to.

Hmmmmm...

DOD stickers no longer are required to have the base name below so the sticker will be able to go with the bike on a PCS move...
The reason I was told they want you to remove it prior to shipping a vehicle is to stop a terrorist from gaining access to it. Granted, anyone can get a sticker off of a car/truck parked in a lot, but when you ship a vehicle it may be months before you realize the sticker (or vehicle) is missing.

On my PCS from Alaska to Arkansas I had to remove the sticker off of my Jeep prior to shipment. The shippers had it for almost 2 months...

I'm still a proponent of making the mounting on the inside of the vehicle like new inspection stickers do.

Not sure how that would work for bikes though...

I'm an old retiree but I went to the local base airframe shop and had a piece of sheet metal cut and formed for just over the size of my front fork downtube... formed it for a flange... then super-glued rubber on the inside. Put it around my fork tube and rivited it together. When it came time to remove it, I simply ground the top edge of the rivits off and off it came. No marks, no mess, no fuss. Some of the guys in the airframe shop got so used to making them they started making them out of chrome. They can form about any metal material so you can make it look like part of the bike without being so conspicuous and it is easily spotted by gate guard. With it rivited, no one can argue that it's not part of the bike. Would also work on front section of frame as well. Just a thought.

I cut a plate from a piece of stainless steel to fit the boltholes of my left caliper. The decal meets the "front - left" and permanently attached requirements but can still be removed without a trace if needed. It's also not obvious to casual observers - CWO
