Ha,ha OMG man! A drop just from the handle bars?[sm=insomnia.gif]
Stop ridding immediatly, now mail your helut to me quick (as it will likely soon explode into little pieces) and I'll inspect it for ya, yeah that's it.
Verrrry unlikley that anything is wrong with it after such a short fall. Take a good look at it, if it looks like there is a good chuck out of it then get a new one. Don't worry about a little scratch.
Take a pic of it to show us?
The idea of replacing after a drop has nothing to do with the outer shell. The inner layers absorb impact by crushing, so they are essentially one time use. Of course it crushes to different degrees based on the force of impact. You can't see the damage to these inner layers due to the fact that the outer shell does not deform, it pops back to its original position. So any time you impact the helmet, you have essestially lessened its ability to absorb the maximum impact it was designed to take in that spot.
I've dropped my helmet many times, and probably will many more - guess that's why I don't have kids, I'd probably drop them too.
I saw a show the other night called "GI Factory" (10pm CST, Military Channel) that had a segment on the manufacture of the military's helmet. It has multiple layers of Kevlar and I thought I heard them say it would stop an AK47 round.

The current kevlar helmet will not stop a direct hit with an AK round, it will deflect a shot that's not straight on from an AK and will stop small cal. pistol rounds like 9mm and most fragments from AP munitions like mortars. You could drop them a lot and not hurt them, but they are a LOT heavier than a typical motorcycle helmet.

What if you drop your helmet?
There is also a lot of fear mongering about dropped helmets.
This is a problem because no one can ever guarantee that a helmet has not sustained any damage in a drop. How many 'little' drops affect the helmet' s ability to protect the wearer in the event of that one major impact?
Manufacturers and safety authorities are bound to err on the side of caution and to advise that the helmet should be replaced if it has sustained an impact. This is because they cannot take the risk of saying 'that it is alright to re-use it after the drop'.
Use common sense
If you drop your helmet or it fell off your bike (stationary), then there would be little chance of damaging the outer shell or the inner shell which actually absorbs the energy on impact. However, if you throw your helmet against a wall or down the road in a fit of rage, then you could damage the outer shell and affected the helmet's ability to protect you (Gibson, 2004).

I wouldn't risk that! You should replace the helmet before the second bounce or the internal integrity of the helmet will be sacrificed.
