Thumbs down mapping my engine

I have a 2008 sportster 1200 and I just put on some cycle shack slips. they are simply amazing. But the Harley Dealer said i need to get my engine mapped for $230.00... Does it make that much of a difference on the engine with simply replacing the pipes? or is this just a way for the dealer to make some money?

Any help would be appreciated

Unless it's running lean, you're OK. Simple cycle shack slipons should run fine. You don't have a tuner do you?

no i dont have a tuner. A buddy of mine said as long as it seems to run fine and to watch the pipes to ensure they do get normal carbon build up on them. said if it is to lean they will not turn black. It just seems crazy to spend that kind of money to have it re mapped.

Well, I can tell you that when you get the money put a tuner on and have it dynoed. You would be suprised what is on the table for power. At worst yes, I would do a Stage 1. It not a gimmick by the dealer.

If you start getting a popping noise on deceleration, get her tuned. You'll be surprised how a simple change can make it run lean.

If I am getting popping on deceleration does that mean I am running lean, I have never had carbon build up even before I put my Slip-Ons on, what damage could I do,

Default On an '08?? Naw...

Your EFI & O2 Sensors will automatically adjust to accommodate your slip-ons, there's no need to re-map until you drop in the Stage 1.

Search the forums and you'll find lots of info to fill in the blanks.

I put cycle shack slip ons on my 08 883 back in Aug. Bike runs great no problems and I even have normal carbon build up. I'm thinking of doing a stage 1 sometime next year.
