I agree that you should keep going with the job for now, but if you end up having to bail, consider the cheaper cost of living in the South. I moved from Philly to Atlanta in 1999, and it still amazes me how much cheaper it is down here. As I type this, gas is $1.60 at Costco. When you look at housing /rental cost, taxes, utilities, etc, it becomes apparent that just by being in this location it will be many thousands less than PA. Good luck.

Ah so, Grasshoppa. You are wise but you are young. Your adversary is wise, but he is old, therefore he is to be admired and embraced for he has more of lifes experiences to draw upon. It is easier to make the enemy your friend than it is to keep him your enemy. In time you will be old and it will be your time to pass along your knowledge to the young. Profit from your time with this man now for you have nothing at risk. Pride and experience are at opposit ends of the spectrum. Learn to embrace one and swallow the other. It is up to you as to decide which is which.

Now I have a degree from PSU in Business Administration focusing around information technology even though I have not used it. My current job is assistant safety manager for a motorcoach company. I also am the GPS manager and parts manager. Needless to say I have never used my degree and looking for a career change.

I was looking into being a Harley tech but I really don't want to go back to school and given the economy the dealerships around me are laying off and getting smaller. I wouldn't mind building bikes but you never know if they will sell. so I need something steady....thanks guys and girls. Also moving is not a problem. I wanted to move someplace warmer so I can ride..
I know it's a cliché put it is easier to find a job when one has a job. Update your resume, get it posted on some of the job sites so you can apply on line and apply for those things you're interested in and don't be afraid to reach a little. Remeber also to include key words as hiring managers do look for these.

Just my .02, and Good luck,

Krusr

Document, document, document! Follow the golden rule! Be a good poker player and keep a poker face (dont show emotion). Keep your reviews handy for the if/or when talk with the GM. If the GM doesnt like your performance, he/she would have had a sit down already. Did it run fine before the other manager went out? Did it run fine bfore the old grouch showed up? He wants your job and is intimidated an/or jealous of your youth an education. Give this old crank the respect he deserves but question his statements on your performance: Why would you say that?..What do you base that statment on?...Why?...Make him defend his statments an actions. When you ask questions, do it in a non confrontaional way, like a salesman. Joke, but always ask what he bases his statements on?
You can do this over time...Do not be confrontational....
Yes, I cant spell either...LOL
Best of luck to you! Keep us up dated...

If you are doing these things. People will notice.
In most cases, when someone is pointing a finger, they forget that the other 4 are pointing right back at themself. This guys true colors will eventually show.
Well said! Most managers aren't completely clueless. They eventually figure out who the real performers are and who doesn't pull their weight.
Also, never get defensive and try to justify your actions. Doing the right thing speaks for itself.

Just my .02!

I would kiss *** to keep the job you have.....not that *** kissing is a
career goal, but there are those that would like to be in your position.
Your job is not to like the guy/girl you work with. Do YOUR job, and make your bosses job easier. Don't bitch. Make sure you do you job to the best of your ability.
You want to change jobs? Good luck. I am sure there are jobs out there.
You vacate your position and you make someone very happy. (Why do that?)
I would love to be able to quit my job....(unfortunately, I need a pay check)

It just really sucks that a person has to put up with an arshole for a boss. I'm going through the same thing at work. I've been with this company for 8 years. I'm a Quality Assurance technician, & we've had 4 supervisors in 5 years. Our latest boss started last Feb. He's my about the same age as I am, (54 in March), & rides a Harley, (I should say, owns a Harley). I thought this guy would be an ok type of guy. Boy was I wrong. I found out that he was fired from his previous job, & that 2 female employees had filed harrassment charges against him, one was sexual harrassment. Both of those employees were terminated before he was. Right after he was hired, he hired one of his previous employees,(A.K.A. drinking buddy), who had no previous experience what so ever in this line of work, (QA). He thew this guy right into my position, (doing inspections,or audits, of final products), & gave me the position that his buddy had originally been hired for, which by the way was a new position that hadn't existed before. It was ALOT more of a physical type job, & I was still recovering from back sugery that I had a couple of months before. I did the job as best I could, but it was very hard for me. My first review from him was less than desirable to say the least. He actually accused me of faking my back problems. Eventually, I was put back in my original position. 2 months later, I was called into his office, & was told that he was contemplating terminating me, because he "suspected" me of manipulating final audit scores by actually loosing parts of the finished products that I was inspecting. I was given my first ever written reprimand, with my next disiplinary action being termination. This will be on my permanent record. All of this because of "speculation". Now we don't speak. He communicates to me through e-mails or via the kid that I work with. He has no clue as to what he's doing, to the point that alot of the other supervisors & engineers make fun of him. I really wanted to file harrassment charges against him, but as my luck would have it, the new H.R .gal that we have, just happens to be the same one that was in charge of H.R. at his previous place of employment, & was the one who fired the last 2 people that filed complaints against him. One of us is going to get fired. I just pray that the V.P.of operations will see him for what he really is, before he finds a reason to fire me. Every day is so stressful. I run my ars off for 10 hrs. a day trying to hit my quota of audits, & still make sure I don't miss anything during my inspections, or do ANYTHING that might give him a reason to fire me. I've even had chest pains over this chit. Sorry this was soooo long, but when I saw this thread, I just needed to get this off of my chest.

Default Update:

Well someone here asked me to update this little topic of mine. I am currently still employed with my current employer and I believe that my GM has started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm just treading water right now to see what corporate does. We are supposed to be expanding some line run services that we offer on the east coast bringing the service back to my area and terminal. So We will see how that goes.

I'll try to remember to post of any changes
