I do a lot of purchasing on Ebay as well. Paying thru Paypal is very helpful to buyers. If you don't receive the item you wanted or is damaged, you can always file a grievance (similar to credit cards). If they don't off refunds, be cautious.
What you should also do is check their feedback rating. Look for "negative" ratings. That will usually tell you if the are a trustworthy seller.
The standard HD Dunlop then.........still have them on mine and no complaints. Switched my metrics to WWW Metz and really loved those, could tell a big difference. When the RKC needs new shoes I am going to try upgrades (or at least what seems like an upgrade).
If these got me into WWW's for cheap I would probably try, I have been burnt before, but once in awhile there is a "steal." I assume the D402's are plentiful out there, maybe that's why they are so low?. Finding they don't hold would suck, you're right. Good luck!
I also noticed that the shipping charges for this particular seller are all over the board. One lists shipping for a rear tire as $25 to my zip, while an identical tire in another of their auctions shows $15 to my zip. I wrote them and asked but, again, they've not responded.
I'd be worried about my own safety! These could be "seconds" as well as being aged?
You might get a great deal - but is it worth your life to find out?
I personally wouldn't touch it....
From experience on Ebay. If they won't answer a question, you better not bid. Think, if they aren't interested in the customer before you hand them the money, how interested will they be after they get it?
Well, I bid on 2 of them today and they both ended up going higher than I was comfortable with (due to the unknown age). Minutes AFTER the second auctions ended they finally called me (I'd e-mailed them again asking for a call) and they agreed to check the manufacture date on one of the tires I'd been bidding on. It was 2408. June 2008. Dammit!!! If only I knew they were all that new....
Get tires from http://www.americanmototire.com/catalog/ I just got a set of whitewalls from them. $263 for the set shipped. I couldn't find anything close to that price for avon whitewalls anywhere else, even from a friend who runs a shop...
Did you get the Avon Gangsters? They are wider than the Dunlops and look really retro to me.
Get use to the blue tint I have white walls on my "EGS" for the last three years and it still has a blue tint. Don't tell me to scrub they "it will come off". My knuckles are still sore from doing that and the tint is still there? But I love the old look of wide white walls anyway.

As cheap as I am tires are just one thing I NEVER take a chance with. Find a reputable dealer and buy from them. If you get the whitewalls use a Mr Clean Magik Eraser...they do the job.
Most have been covered here will just Add as a Power Seller with 100% Feedback .. If they don't respond to questions or at least let you know the date and condition of the tires avoid them.. Personally would not buy Bike tires on Ebay although have bought many other things for the Bike.. Tires can mean your life on a Bike.. I have bought Trailer tires and wheels though off Ebay with very good luck but the seller I bought from sells them everyday and has plenty on hand as well with Great Feedback on his Sales..
