I have driven many miles at 80 mph on the super slab but I just can't think of a reason why I would ever consider that speed on a road that is accessible to side entry traffic. There is just not enough reaction time if someone pulls out in front of you.
As a currently deployed soldier it is always sad to hear about one of us who makes it home only to have something like this happen. And yes as someone has said the military is having a serious issue with it's military members coming home with money to burn and buying up sportbikes like it's going out of style. I've ridden sport bikes all my life and at speeds I would rather not repeat in print. When I left for this deployment I told my wife I was going to buy a new sport bike. Kawasaki zx-14 to be exact. Then I started thinking about it. I know myself and my "need for speed" then decided that at 42 it was time to slow down and enjoy the road. I feel for his family but maybe we should all slow down and enjoy the ride.
Beautiful day here in East Alabama, lots of sun and warm temps. The wife and I decided to ride the bike over to Columbus, Ga for lunch. Came upon an accident. Pickup truck pulled out in front of three sport bikes. One of them hit him in the driver door. The EMT's were working on him when we passed. Heard on the news tonight that he died. Was a soldier from Ft. Benning. A witness said they passed him going about 80 mph. No charges against the truck driver. Those guys over there love their sport bikes. Be careful out there. RIP.
