Default GPS Mounting ideas

I have a Garmin Nuvi 205 (not a M/C specific one). Let's see how you all have them mounted.

I'm concerend about it popping off while riding, etc. Anyone deal with that?

If you have a windshield and a good suction mounting assembly, this may work. I'm probably going to try this method while also trying to secure GPS mounting assembly with zip ties to make sure if it does detach, it won't fall and be lost.

I have a Nuvi 205 as well.

I used the suction cup mount, put it on my windshield to the left of my windshield bag. The mount worked perfectly. Held the Nuvi nice and tight, but a couple of times on some hard bumps the Nuvi did turn on the swivel a bit and I had to adjust it.

Not specific to your question, but thought I might comment on my experience with the Nuvi on my bike:

1. It works and is a cool unit. It's perfect for my grocery getter/commuter/poor weather car.

2. It's too hard to see the screen in bright sunlight, even with brightness at 100%.

3. You can't plan routes on MapSource or RaodTrip (Mac) and load them up to the Nuvi 205. This lack makes its usefulness very limited for me on the bike.

4. You can load waypoints, which is ok...but without routes...well....it will calculate a route to the waypoint you might not want to follow.

5. The downloadable MapSource/RoadTrip is basemap only, nowhere near the street level detail I need to plan routes.

So, the Nuvi, while a wicked cool little unit, is in the car 100%. Now that the Zumo 450 has been discontinued I'm watching the prices fall and will be buying one for the bike. It comes with "MapSourceŽ City Navigator North America NT DVD (full unlock)" and the ability to plan/upload routes so it's more suited to my needs on the bike. Lowest price from a reliable supplier I've seen so far is $351....

But I do love my little Nuvi...it does so much...it's really cool!

Very nice Tima and EJ48. Are those generic mounts that can be used for most GPS units?

I have a Nuvi 750. I just use the suction mount that came with the unit. I stick it right above my windsheild bag. I made a little lasso looking thing outta parachute cord. I have it around the windshield bag with the other end on the GPS mount as a safety catch cord. I have never needed it. It has never came off.......I use the same kinda thing around the rear view mirror on my Jeep windshield when we are off-roading. I have never had the mount fail.

Go to the RAM mount site and select the part numbers you need. Then order them off Amazon.com. I got the whole thing for $35.00. Used 3 year now without a problem.

I made a custom bracket out of two pieces of aluminum angle iron. I then covered these with a windshield bag set. When I park the bike or are not using it, I leave the flap over the GPS and no one knows it is there, when I want to use it, I just tuck the flap against itself. Also seems to be a lot less vibration then the handlebar mounted variaty. I wired the plug for it into the cigirette lighter circuit and it seems to work very well.
