Helmets
Now everybody stay calm, I didn't mean that I have more experience on motorcycles then everyone here. My age, length of time riding motorcycles, location, and lifestyle probably means I have more experience then most people. But it is adding to that the decades of living with the results of a head injury is what probably makes me somewhat unique.
Not to demean the pictures, and what they represent, posted by mopardave and schumacher but the most important effects of a head injury are what you can't see. At least IMO. No one knows about your injury until you speak. Perhaps even then people will just assume you are mentally retarded. And that extends to when you are writing something. A head injury can affect your fine dexterity making it necessary for you to print slowly and deliberately, as would a child just learning to write, in order to produce something that is legible. I could go on, but I have demeaned myself enough in my attempt to be altruistic.
There are many other results of a head injury. I knew a guy that fell while mountain climbing. He never regained the ability to speak, walk, feed himself, etc.. It should be a personal choice. Just remember that whatever reason or logic you use to make a choice only means anything for the few minutes or hours while you are actually wearing, or not wearing, a helmet. A head injury will be there 24/7 for the rest of your life. And for the lives of anyone else that is affected.

I wouldn't be typing this right now if it wasn't for the helmet i was wearing on a cold nite just this past November - in an instant I was rear-ended on the freeway by a car doing 85-90 mph (according to a witness who stopped to help me afterwards). I landed on the pavement on the back of my head at 65-70 mph and the maggot left me for dead and continued on. I got up and walked away with just some minor road rash thanks to my wearing good gear. Helmet? You decide...
