After wanting a HD for 30 years I finally pulled the trigger last March and bought a 06 FDXL. Found a great deal on a great bike. That was probably the highlight of 08. Having never riddenbefore I was waiting to take the safety class and get my licence and be ready to roll when the weather broke. Not to be. I lost my Mom then 2 weeks later tore up my shoulder and needed an operation.
Finally released by my doctor last week and hoping for a better 09. I have lost about 15% of my range of motion. My scooter has mini apes and there is no way I can ride her as she sits.
Has anyone had a similar surgery and direct me on what bars to change to? I am height impaired (5'8") and have a 32" sleeve. Much more corncerned with comfort than looks and like most everyone money is tight so I would like to get it right the first time.
If you need to go lower and closer, try drag bars on pull back risers or maybe something along the lines of stock Fatboy bars. Ebay is a great place to look for bargains or maybe someone here will swap something with you. Changing bars is not extremely difficult, but best left to someone who has experience if you happen to be "Mechanically challenged". If you ever did thing like change points and plugs in a car or installed a new stereo then you are more than qualifed.
they take a good year to heal and some take longer. i have stock fatboy bars and they are fine. ive had both shoulders done. first one in 05 the other in 07.
Why don't you first try adjusting your bars to different positions. Bring them lower and closer or higher and farther or anywhere in between. May save yourself some money. Seem like your mini-apes adjusted properly would be the best. Good luck.
I had surgery Oct 25th 07 on my right shoulder,80% tear,1/2" bone spear and arthridic buildup removed, finaly got back to the point this fall were my hand didnt get numb after 20 miles and no pain,Iam going with apes on my one bike this yr..Iam hopeing it all goes well and I have no problems on my EGC now....
You might think about a backrest to give your arm a brake as far as get pulled durning accelaration. Some seat bar combos do tend to keep you reaching atleast the rest wouldn't let you pull back and away from the bar.
