Hey Dock you will not be too far from Buddy Stubbs HD on Cave Creek Rd in Phx. Friday nights at 6pm Buddy gives free tours of his motorcycle museum, which is the only motorcycle museum in AZ, and is a great time. ALL sorts of bikes that Buddy has. Also Buddy has old Evil Knievel bikes in his dealership as Buddy was friends with EK. Another great place to ride to is about 20 minutes North of Buddy Stubbs is a town called Cave Creek which has a few motorcycle friendly restaurants such as Hideaway Cafe.
Ifn you ride down to Tombstone (nice ride), leave early cause they kinda close early. I cant rember the time. Tombstone is a nice place to visit. Looks just like the old west. Also the a lot of the shops close early in Sedona. Im thinking around 6. Very nice place to visit. Ride prepared for hot & or cold weather. Ive have burned up crossing the desert only to freeze in the snow in the high country. Ifn you make it to Sedona , the airport on night a week has all you can eat crab legs , cant remember the night. Chandler HD is not far from Messa, They were very good to me one time when I needed something checked out on my hog.
Lots of dealers in the valley, but for Mesa specifically you're looking at Chester's and Superstition HD. Both have rentals. Definitely head up to Canyon Lake/Tortilla Flats. Tombstone isn't close, but it's south so you could ride there. It get's cold quickly as you head north into the mountains from Phoenix. Another great ride is Sedona just south of Flagstaff, but I haven't been up there since before Xmas so I'm not sure what the weather conditions are. If you go there be sure to skirt around the 101/I-17 intersection--lots of construction.
I did that trip, complete loop, in a jeep at thanksgiving, nice trip. I will be heading back in March to do some ridin with my friend there in Mesa. Interesting name you have there, Bluegrasser. Is that from the state, bluegrass music, or some new smoke? I do play bluegrass music. When I am headung that way I will send you a PM.
Superstition HD is out in Apache Junction. Chesters HD will be closest.
There is some great riding if you head east on rt 60 up thru Superior to Globe. From Globe you can head north to Lake Roosevelt or loop south on rt 77 to Winkelman then up 177 past the open pit copper mines back to Superior.
It's a great run you can do in a few hours and the scenery is awesome.
During March expect temps in mid 70's - low 80's during day and 60's at night.
Well I agree Canyon Lake/Tortilla Flat is a must ride if your in the Mesa area. Also, check out Superstition HD on your way to Canyon Lake. Well worth the visit it is a pretty sweet HD dealership. I would recommend riding out east on US60 as well. Take you about 45 minutes but head up to Superior, AZ and go about 10-15 miles beyond Superior. It is a kickass, twisty, scenic ride. Well worth the trip...I moved here 6 years ago and there still is a TON of area I have left to cover here. Tombstone is about 2.5 hour ride I'm guessing. Depending on how much time you have, it's a great ride as well and Tombstone is pretty cool...
