Harley Superiority?
I don't get it.
Coming up on my first full year owning a Harley, I've come across a lot of other people on bikes, HD and otherwise. Almost every time, the other guy starts out with "It's just a Honda..." or something to that effect. It's then followed by a rationalization of why they spent less. I've never been asked how much I paid for my bike, and I've never once tried to justify the expenditure to those who know what I did pay.
The guys at either end of my street have a Boulevard and a VTX. Talking with them individually, I suggested we should get a neighborhood ride going. They were surprised when I said this, they figured I "wouldn't ride with them" because I had a Harley. I told 'em they were being ridiculous.
My buddy and I were out and about and stopped into a local Kawasaki dealer. [We were on HDs] He wanted to check out a new Concours 14 in person, so we went into this multi-line jap bike dealership. I've never been treated so poorly in my life. It's like I was walking in handing out naked pictures of the salesman's mother. I tried to talk to him a couple times, but he just retorted with a sarcastic comment and a slam on HD.
I like all motorcycles, and I guess I just don't understand this attitude. I can tell you this, though, HD must be superior, cuz everybody treats HD like they are.
When my wife and I ride up to a Harley dealer on our Ultra wearing our
Goldwing jackets we get treated the exact same way you got treated
in the Kawasaki Dealer.
This is the way of the new motorcycle world, most everyone is a social
club motorcycle (owner) now. Theres hardly any real motorcyclists left
out there any more to keep the Brotherhood going that there use to be.
The Brotherhood of motorcycle riders never cared what you rode, all they
knew was, you rode and you were their Brother from that point on..
The new social club clicky people that (own) motorcycles now days have
no idea what the Brotherhood is all about no matter what they ride..
To bad, but thats the way it is today........
Its too bad that ABC rider can't ride with XYZ because they won't look like a badass since they're not on a Harley. Well guess what, chances are you aren't a badass anyway. So take off that ridiculous pre-fitted leather doo-rag, that vest that every other poser has, and just ride to have fun. Not ride from bar to bar in your Harley costume acting like a 1%.
If you are a 1%, then I understand vest and patch deal. But for all the f'n lawyers and day traders out there that throw the on the uniform come Saturday morning and cruise town like they're on the Most Wanted list going bar to bar, give me a f'n break. Go prepare your closing statement, or figure out how to go invest whats left of your clients' retirement so they can eat when they have to stop working. You're not an outlaw, and no one else respects you or thinks your a harda$$ anyway.
