It's even worse over here, everybody puts down Harleys, most have never ridden one though.I nod or wave at everyone on a motorbike,if they acknowledge that...fine,if not...f'kem.
I have some on-line sportbike friends that only complain about the Harley being so big (wide) because it makes filtering much more difficult if not hazardous. It's not that they dislike the bikes, only that they don't serve their purpose as well and they are damned expensive as opposed to other machines. I know when they sent me the first sales brochures on the XR1200 when it came out over the pond the price was well above what that same bike is going for in the US and I mean thousands of dollars more.
I let many years go buy because I couldn't afford a Harley and wouldn't be seen riding a "rice burner". Many years I now regret.
When I lived in southern California there were many that were brand specific and this was real evident at some bike nights. Here in Kentucky I have found the reverse to be true as two wheels is it and for the most part all these folks want to do is ride, which may have something to do with the winter layover. I had never had to deal with this before. I will say this, they may not be riding but to see the bike you may have seen in the fall come back in the spring shows these folks have not forgotten about their bikes in the layover because they always change for the better in terms of mods.
I guess I've been lucky. The only people to give me any chit are my non-Harley buddies. And I expect getting grief from them. Otherwise its been all good.

So what makes the Big Dog or any of the other custom bikes anything special, they're not Harley for sure. Rather, they're a Heinz 57 of who is who in the available parts catalogs of American Iron. It ain't a Harley and if it were then yeah, it would be special.
This happend to me and a friend just last week at the victory dealership. We went in just to look at the bikes. The salesman came over to do what salesman do when we started talking I told him we both ride harleys. Immiedialty the conversation went bad all he could do was talk chit on harleys and how Victories was so much better. He said he'll do us a favor and give us a trade in towards a victory. I said no thanks I'm happy with my Harley. By the way I asked him if Vics was so good why is it 2009 and you still have 2007's on the show room floor that you still can't sell. He did'nt have a answer.
