There's a difference in bikes and how they handle the wind. Bigger bikes (Baggers and related) seam to take the wind pretty good While if your riding a smaller, lighter bike the wind will definitely push you around.

On a roadglide, you can still feel the wide. But not on the handlebars. Mostly side winds impact you the MOST. Blow ya around a bit side to side. especially when we get those southernly winds from the south. But the head winds can blow your feet right off the floorboards. I have to say, stearing on a road glide is fine throughout it all. I don't know if it is any better or worse with a windshield, but I cant imagine steering would be any worse without a windshield.

Thanks for the info, now I have another Item to put on my wish list, definitely detachable, I'll only use it on highway rides... The Deflector from National Cycles looks like it might work out for me. Not too big, but should take most of the wind off my chest...

Tried a medium quick release on my 06 Wide Glide. It was too short for me, and now getting the tall.

Riding without it every day, I'm having the same trouble, cagers going 80+, and I'm hanging on tight without the windshield to divert most of that wind.

If I didn't own a Electraglide I would agree with the statement above. The batwing on the Electraglide sucks. Add saddle bags and be prepared to be blown around big time. I can feel a tractor trailer a 1/2 mile before I get to it. My last bike had a 25 year old Windjammer II and it did much better. I could ride in the rain with the Windjammer II and NOT GET WET!. With the batwing the buffeting is so bad the rain comes around the windshield.

Yea I just bashed my own bike. How about them Road Glides; are they any better?

Hearing both sides of the story, but my batwing works great and I've never noticed it adding any wind control to the ride. I can feel semis blowing past me, but it's never affected the handling any.

I've never even noticed the handling problems of the baggers that others have described. I've had mine well over 100, 2-up, with no feeling of loss of control, but some people have complained about the wallowing and the headshake. I've never had it.

Maybe they'll come up with a removable batwing one of these days....

I have a detachable sport w/shield on my sporty and love it. I get blown around a bit by 18-wheelers with or without the windshield and really don’t notice any difference. I don’t think that is anything to be concerned with – just be aware of it and be prepared for when it does happen. The biggest improvement is not feeling like I’m being blown off the bike at high speeds. I do like the option of taking it off when doing slower riding in town, especially during the summer.

I think the Roadglide is better than the Electraglide as far as buffeting input into the hadlebars. With the Electraglide, the bar-mounted fairing directs all of the buffeting into the bars. The frame mounted fairing of the Roadglide does not. I feel very little steering input from
things like trucks blasting by, for instance. This does not mean that there is no input at all, as the surface area of the motorcycle is always affected by wind and buffeting. The whole bike will move, for instance, in a severe cross-wind situation if you don't keep giving constant correction. I find riding the Roadglide much more relaxing than riding an Electraglide because those bars are not being yanked around.
