I stopped buy the stealer on saturday just to look around, and to my surpise they only had about 15 new bikes on display, but in thier other show room where they usually is around 100 new bikes set up there was a whole floor of used stuff, and one bike that caught my eye was a05 egs, with 26000 miles on it and the sticker price they had on this old girl was 15,000 , This dose not seem like a dealer thats hurting to me, i mean 15000 is what the msrp was on the bike brand new!!!
When I bought my Harley comaman2, I found out I could get a new one cheaper, figuring by the month payments, than one that was a year old. Part of this was because of the lower finance rate on the new bikes.
Let's see...a dealer that normally has 100 new bikes on the floor and now has only 15, and a showroom full of overpriced used ones. That doesn't sound like prosperity to me.
The way it's going, in one month I bet most of the 15 new ones will still be there, and the same for the overpriced used bikes. I live in Michigan, not much of anything is selling good here...
Since 2007 HD has cleared about 20,000 bikes out of US inventory due to production cuts and shipping dealers few bikes then they sold. I would expect new inventory to be a little low by August. HD just cut production by another 30,000 bikes and we will have to see how sales go for the dealers. I think some dealers are planning ahead to make sure they have bikes at the end of the summer by buying extra used bikes now.
