Joe Rocket jacket, overpants and Scorpion helmets are why I'm not getting reconstructive surgeries for years to come, now it's all the gear all the time and that means armor too.
For some odd reason I have approached this riding season with some anxiety, maybe age who knows---I have armour (correct spelling ) in my jackets and have purchased a pair of BOHN --armoured under jeans pants ---the price was reasonable and If I do not like them it will not break the bank. The only negative I can see in wearing them --if in an accident and need to have them cut off---they look like silk long underwear with padding---not very macho.
In all my years and most all of them with leather and always gloves,no helmet. The sport of motorcycling can only be enjoyed when, happy and comfortable.Have always been a very aggressive rider and found that the way I ride is much safer for me.Period
I ride with the Olympia AirGlide jacket that has armor in it. This is a pretty versatile jacket as I can wear it in the summer without getting overheated and then add the liner when it gets cold. Around central Texas it is 30 degrees in the morning and 70 degrees in the afternoon so being able to just take the liner off is pretty handy. That and it is actually warmer than my leather jacket. It came with the armor and I got used to it pretty quick. My wife also wears the AirGlide over pants both summer and winter again because of the liner it is incredibly versatile. I havent gotten the over pants as yet, still like the versatility and protection of the chaps. To each his own and what you feel comfortable with on the road.
I recently watched the program shootout on History channel about the California bank holdup-shootout. the gunners had armor on and good assault weapons and held the police off for way to long, a good head shot would have ended that sooner.
The point I am making is when we ride, we need protection, and if your an older biker you have probably experienced road rash or injuries. I wear an armor ballistic jacket, full leather when cool, and knee-shin armor when hotter. Armor is cool.
