You might want to look up a trail calculator as adding that much to the front end with out any rake and you may have a bike that is really dangerous to ride. Just a thought.
I've got 4" over forks on the front and dropped the rear about 3". I have no problems at all. Going slow (parking lot speeds) it feels a tiny bit heavier but not enough to complain about.
Back in the oldin days my buddy had a 55pan with a 18 inch over front end. flopper just about fits the description of how it was. You couldn't ride it slow otherwise it would tend to lay over on one side or the other. once you were over 30 mph ,didn' t handle bad.You didn't want to make any quick manuvers or turns with it thou.,,,
Ol timers, at what length do bikes become floppers using stock trees and neck?
I'm thinking about going 4 over on the front with stock trees and neck. I do know that at 16 over it's floppin.
Picked up/traded for a project softtail rolling chassis for my 64 motor and gonna play with it.
4" over stock is really only about 2" over current FXWG type front ends. That small an increase in fork length shouldn't give you any nervous moments. That's only the increase that my XA forks have over a stock springer.
How are you planning on matching the shafts? Or are you going to use a 4 speed in the Softtail?

Just like daddyknuck said 4'' is nothing,up to an including 8'' is ok.Where it gets tricky is the rake.In the old days I turned a couple ridgid frames into junk fooling with rake, and a few springer frontends trying to extend them.

Remember springers being extended with Ford radius rods and even butt welding? How did anybody live through those days?
