well, we just got back from the dealer and the girlfriend really fell in love with the cvo's even more. but then...something good happened. the one in their basement was already spoken for the salesgirl said. she said they'd be getting another one in as well but it was spoken for too. then she said it'd probably be hard to find an '09 cvo ultra not spoken for so that easily made up my mind. stick w/the regular ultra.
wow! what a load off my shoulders. i felt that $35,000 price tag already starting to choke me out. i feel much better now. we'll stick with the "cheap" non-cvo ultra.
think that price is high, try buying one in canada 43 grand they just went up 6 grand in oct. and I bet they go up again in spring, bike prices only went up 10% and dollar is high 20's so Im sure us poor canuks will be bending all the way over to grab our ankles in the spring. think dealy needs to start making a grand per bike instead of the 2 grand they have been collecting the way the economy is right now.
I can only say what I've seen at Las Vegas and Redrock HD in Vegas ... I've been in both several times over the last couple months and it seems each of the CVOs always had "Sold" sign on them. The CVO Ultra at Redrock went for MSRP+ a little extra.
Both dealers still seem to be pricing other bikes at $1500 to $2000 over MSRP as well. Not sure what folks are actually getting out the door, but it's not reflected in the original prices on the floor. As an example, a bone-stock Ultra (Redhot Sunglo) at LVHD is sitting there with a sticker of $23k on it ... and that's without adding in delivery, setup, tax, etc. The MSRP on that bike is only $ 21,529, so that's $1500 above MSRP.
Interestingly, my local dealer (Zion HD in southern Utah) is owned by LVHD, but right now Zion is running the 100 shares of HD stock with each new bike purchased. LVHD did not have this deal this weekend when I was there. You can also get 6 months with no interest and no payments through the end of February.
HOG stock price was $14.30 at the bell today but fell to $14.05 after hours. Basically that's $1400 off the price of the new bike, assuming you sell at the current rate. You can get the HD stock and save over $2k off the LVHD prices if you're willing to drive the 110 miles north.
A couple of years ago, I was looking at a SE Ultra (didn't get it) and I was friends with the sales manager at a dealer in the Chicago area. He couldn't go below MSRP then, but times may have changed by now.
I haven't priced the ultra but the sales manager here just offered $2K off the price of the CVO Dyna I was looking at. I hadn't even asked him about it, I was just admiring it on the showroom.
In 02 when I got ready to get into a CVO 103" Ultra, the price made turn around and walk out. That same year I built a groundup RK with 124" motor for tad over $16K a little less than half the price.

Re-sale is a tricky business with the CVO's. They are custom, so they are worth more, but people don't want to pay *that* much more for a model they are looking for.
I had a hell of a time getting rid of my 05 CVO HD when I went to get my 08 SG. I had it for sale for 3 months, and people would just end up offering me what the non-CVO went for. I ended up trading it in from the HD b/c they would give me the most... I still took it in the *** though.
