A riding buddy talked me into re-upping my national membership to go to the rallies. Not a local member as they're really far away. I am looking forward to going to the state rallies this summer, see what gives.
Have been in HOG for 8 years. Have not checked into a local chapter. As far as roadside assistance, I too was left on the side of the road. The chapters and the publication are the only benefits that I can see. And that is what you put into them.
My experience with their roadside assistance sucked also. If you are not on an interstate with mile markers they can not help you. At least that is what I got from them.
Our local chapter is great. We have met many good people and made some new friends. The chapter has 1-4 rides per week most of the year with several good multi day rides. I feel lucky.
I tried roadside assistance once when my DH was stranded. I gave them the milepost, etc...when they got back to me and said they couldn't find anyone to go tow his bike I had already called a local HD Dealer in the area he was stranded(flat tire) and they were there picking him up already!! I'll always do that from now on.
iam a life member 1991 of hog it was nice to get the mag and package ever yr even that i was not riding some dealers give you 10% off that is just about gone have not checked out local chapter yet but did sign up for a state event it sems they have the milage program also something else to do
thanks gabe
Ive been a Lifer since early 90's but do not belong to the local chapter due to the fact its about 78 miles away but I do use the ride and fly and have had to use the road side assistance back in 96 other then that I have a drawer full of pins and patches.......
Cech you local chapter and go from there, see if ya fit in....

I'm getting back into riding after 20 years absence. I joined the national HOG organization and will attend my 1st local chapter meeting on
Sunday 2/18/09. I have already talked with a couple of the local members and they seemed like good people. We'll see, and I will check back here next week with my impression.
Okay --here's my take on it. National member for six years. Seen Hog take care of a broken hd by dispatching a wrecker to take the broke down bike to a HD dealer. A hundred mile trip one way give or take a few miles. Dealer fixes bike --life is good. Seen that but haven't had to use them yet. My insurance has a tow clause also. I hope that if I need it someone will help between Hog and Foremost. Our local chapter has a lot of my friends in it but I am not a member. Not much on joining a ride to the restaurant club. Good people but not my cup of tea. All chapters are different from what I have heard and seen.
