Hey guys,
I pulled my swingarm bag off last week to put on saddlebags and the bag rubbed up against the swingarm and messed up the finish.
I found a local powdercoater, so I pulled off the swingarm today, and will be taking it to powdercoat tomorrow.
Does anyone know if I need to pull the bearings that are in the swingarm, or can they cover them up?
My bike is an '08 Deluxe.
I would absolutely pull them out. They may try to cover them, but the swingarm needs to be media blasted which will likely intrude into the bearings. They may look fine, but those particles will likely cause premature failure and you will have to take it all apart again and replace the bearings.
A large socket from the inside of the swingarm and tap them out with a hammer. No need to take off the snap ring, then reverse to put them back together.
Like said above, make sure the powder coater DOES NOT coat the inside of the bearing holes! If he does you'll need a small drum sander on a drill or dremel to remove it before getting those bearings back in.
