Salem HD is a very nice, fair and reputable Dealer. They just had a silent auction on used Bikes yesterday. Go visit them.

With all the horror stories that are often posted about "stealerships" I can understand why he asked the question. That being said I would start by visiting your local dealer and start chatting with the sales staff. You are not obligated to purchase.

Navy, I agree with you, however, you know as well as I do that the best business is done face to face. Especially on large ticket items such as motorcycles. Anybody can say anything they want on the phone or across the internet to lure you in. The real deal happens when you are face to face with money in hand. Oftentimes, searching all over the place for a good deal is as close as your local dealer. I say give them the first chance and see what happens.

gsport, don't know if you have dealt with H-D Dealers before, but they are a little different from say buying a Corvette where you can go to the Corvette Forum and have the four largest(and others) Dealers in the country competing for your business. You will find it difficult to find a H-D Dealer who will give any deal less than MSRP unless you are standing there in person. With this economy, its possible to get some discounting, but one has to do the grunt work on every deal.

It does seem that what's posted here is not the norm. HDF=Paranoia

When you're looking at spending in excess of 15k....a savings of $500 isn't worth the trouble of traveling across the state, let alone the country. Just my opinion. Shop your area, and find the best deal including any extras they may throw in. Sign your check and enjoy the ride.

Talk to the dealer in your area. Then talk with all the dealers in Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Make sure you talk with Dave at Racine, Harley. Last week I was sitting shooting the bull with him and he took a call from a guy in Dallas. They did a deal while I was sitting there.

I'd also talk with the dealers in the Chicago area. I'm pretty sure a few Chicago area dealers are doing $1000-2000 off msrp. There are around 12 dealers in the greater Chicago area. There are 7 dealers in the greater Milwaukee area and SE Wisconsin.
