basic rider courses
wow got alot more responses then i thought.
thanks guys. i understand that the biggest difference is weight. the advice is great and welcomed. im looking forward to the course and taking my first trip to laconia on 2 wheels. i am a conservative driver in my car and dont cinsider myself to be a speed freak, but i am concerned about the weight. i grew up on the gas tank of a 68 sportster with my dad, and ive always seen it done but never did it. so i cant wait. my wife is terrified.

I took the course and loved it!
We rode Buell Blast 500cc motors just under 350 lbs.
I think the biggest difference between those and yours is the weight/power.
I rode my first Harley an 883, and left it in the neighbors front yard because I was used to the Buell's slow and low torque during take offs. That 883 took off and I practically forgot everything when I went in to O-sh*t mode.
Comparison
Buell Blast 500cc 350 lbs and around 35 hp 20's torque.
HD 883L 800cc +/- 550 lbs and around 50-60 hp 50's torque
In other words almost double the Buell. What the hell was I thinking not practicing my friction zone first.
Get used to the friction zone on your bike, then its all good.
I can figure 8 that 883 now.

I went from the BRC, to a metric 800 cc, to an Electra Glide in 8 months. You can do it if you use what you learn and practice. Don't get yourself into situations with the big bike that you haven't practiced on. Take it slow and keep up the practice. I still hit an empty parking lot everynow and then just to refresh my skills.
