Have had AAA through CAA for years. Particularly liked the fact that we could add kids on to the plan for the beaters they were driving - and they used the service every once in awhile. I had upgraded to the RV plan so I could have our bikes covered also although the only thing we have had to use it for was for gas. We have not found the other CAA services to be of much use.

My concern with AAA is that they will only tow 100 miles and they were starting to get a bit pricey. Given that most of our MC trips are fairly long and we many times are a long way from civilization, Murphy's Law would inevitably kick in 200 miles from a dealership when we have a break down.

Looking at all the other alternatives including HOG, MTS and Good Sam, based on some good reports on this forum, Good Sam may suit us the best. While it is designed primarily for people with RV's, it covers all vehicles (including motorcycles) in a family, extends coverage to all members of a family, provides unlimited mileage tows and provides the other services expected in an emergency tow package. It looks to be cheaper than CAA for our family.

As an aside, any other reports of experiences with other emergency tow services would be appreciated.

I looked into the California AAA last year for motorcycle roadside assistance. It looks like you have to have AAA insurance on the bike to get the roadside assistance. In other states, you can get the RV roadside assistance, including a motorcycle, without having AAA insurance on the motorcycle. Don't know if it has changed.
