I was at work today, and one of my co-workers was surfing the net and looking at various motorcycle websites. He, and everyone else I've talked to in the past 8 months, knows I've got a Harley on the way, so he asks me "What's so special about a Harley that you'd pay double what a japanese bike costs?". My answer was sincere: "If I have to tell you, you'll never understand." He thought I was joking and really wanted me to explain it to him. I just repeated what I'd told him the first time and also said "I'm really not kidding, man!". He really just could not understand, heheheh...
you know man some people have no clue... I never look at myself as better then everyone.. NEVER..
But one day I was at work and we have a section where everyone parks there bikes... its mostly a sea of rice rockets, but a few cruisers.. one HD sporty and my chop.. I was talking to a dude who rides a kaw. vulcan.. sometime last year kawasaki ran that crazy *** 39.99 a month so in a 3 week perios like 12 vulcans showed up at work.. seriously.. I call them the Vulcan crew.. so anyways.. we where all letting them warm up and one of them asked why the guy in the sporty bought a HD.. he replied with some answer.. and the vulcan rider was like man but they are so expensive... So I piped up.. I said what do you got in that Vulcan.. with all your Dennis Kirk bolts on and so on.. he named his price.. I was like yeah, you bike cost more then the sporty.. what gives.. he was amazed.. Some people have no clue..
It's a really visceral thing... you either "get" it or you don't... there's no explaining it, no rationalizing it. The first time I SAW a Harley, I knew I was going to own one one day. I was never a "wannabe", I was only a "cantaffordtobe"... now I'm a "soontobe"! It only took 20 years!

I feel the same way and I just got my scooter last week. Honestly though, I have owned a CBR1000, Honda 650, Yamaha 600 & 650, a HD enduro back in the day and none of them compare to my Night Train. It's like driving a 56 chevy compaired to a new Acura. It has style. I will never own anything different.
Yeah, I get a lot of people at work saying, why pay so much, you could have bought a nice car. (not that there is anything wrong with my tacoma) Some people don't understand that bike riding is my hobby, my ONLY hobby, my escape. I try to explain the sounds, the smells you experiance riding. Then I usually give up, Your right, Some people just don't get it and never will.
05 Night Train. Should be VERY soon now... I'm hoping within the next 2 weeks. She still hs to be delivered to my dealer, and set up with the Stage 1 upgrades, and general stuff.
My work place must be the exception. There are 7 guys that ride. ALL of us have Harley's. 3 Softails, 1 Road King, 1 Dyna and 2 Sporties. Sometimes, there is very little room to park in the covered area for the bikes!
