Default Key Fob learning experience!

I usually keep my key fob in my riding jeans, but after last ride was going to change jeans & laid fob on bench close to my bike. Next ride, started 'er up & went for 20 mile ride to my usual hangout. Got ready to leave, pushed starter button, nothing happened! Felt my jeans, no frigg'in fob! I remembered reading in my manual 2 years ago about how to disarm the security system, but kind of forgot about it, until then. Called my wife & brought the fob to me, thank God I was'nt out in the boonies somewhere. Needless to say, re-read that manual & learned how to disarm that sucker so that ain't going to happen again.

Look in your owners manual, there should be a wallet size foldable tear out that has all the info on how to override manually along with spaces to write down your pers code. Fold it and stick it in your wallet for emergencies just like this one.

I have unfortunately experienced a similar situation. My battery failed on mine leaving stranded. I had to quickly remember how disarm the system. The most overlooked portion of the routine is to NOT move the handlebars. I have sometimes thought that the system is more trouble than it's worth. I have since began carrying extra batteries. =)

Was heading out for a ride and went to unlock my forks at the exact same time as my cell phone rang. Left the barrel key in the fork lock and answered the call. Since my old bike had the key under the tank it didn't register as weird leaving it there. Went across town to get a burger & a beer, etc. I hopped on to go home and the freakin' blinkers are flashing at me. In retrospect, I remembered hearing the key fall to the road somewhere a few blocks from home. Had to catch a ride back home and scanned the route hoping to find them, but alas...

I never did find it and had to get the system reprogrammed with a new fob and key.

I don't recommend it.

I'm thinking about just getting the fob implanted under my skin.

I've left my FOB behind more than once. Haven't taken my first ride yet but, will refresh my memory as to disabling the alarm without the "key."

I didn't get the alarm system with some regrets. Your stories are helping me get over it!

My son and I both reprogramed our systems with numbers we would remember. Replaced the batteries on the remotes when we paid for new registration. Simple insurance for peace of mind.

I put my fob and barrel key on a belt clip. I leave it in the same spot inside the house so I can't start the bike and leave without it. When I get home from a ride it comes off my belt and placed on the shelf in the house.
