A rainy day...
I drove from Washington, DC to Milwaukee, WI last Sunday. It’s only 830 miles so with all the creature comforts my truck has it’s an easy day. Driving through West Virginia I came upon three guys on motorcycles; one Road King, one softail and a dyna. It was a rainy, cold, miserable day. The guys on the dyna and softail both had these small windscreens that offered little protection from the elements. The King had a good sized windscreen. None had any form of lowers. I stayed back and watched them ride for several miles. I remember the days of riding my sporty around the country with the almost non-existent windscreen and no lowers. Rain was almost intolerable and mist was just plain annoying! All three guys had that hunkered down look; the one where you are trying to get your head tucked into your body like a turtle. How I remember those days. How glad I am today that I ride a RG with full upper and lower fairings! And that heated vest just screams “So warm and dry…” Then I think about the Stallion trike with air conditioning and heater and think maybe when I’m 75 it will be time to get on three wheels. Not that many more days before the weather will really be fit for riding again…
