All you shmucks that think guys who wear german helmets are trying to emulate the ss don't know your bike history.
When WWII was over and our troops came home, they brought with them tons of german military items that the troops took right off the very bodies of ****'s they proudly killed. If you put yourself in their shoes and what they went thru, you would understand the powerful meaning and pride they had in these german military items. To them they were huge emblems that proudly screamed that we defeated the ****'s. Well there where a very large number of guys that had difficulty getting back into society and missed the danger and rush of war and they took to street bikes. For them, it helped make them feel more "at home", especially the troops that rode Harleys in the war. When they rode their, they would proudly wear the german helmets that they brought home to display they have been to hell and back and personally took down a ****. They also displayed other german symbols besides helmets, like german spikes, there medals, and badges, hence this is where displaying the iron cross originally came from.
So to the guys that wear german helmets, wear them proudly and know that they stand for defeating the germans and supporting the troops that took those helmets by hand.
In no way does wearing a german helmet state, "look at me, I want to be a ****".
A+ It's nice to see when people actually do thier homework before giving thier opinion on something they know nothing about. Thanks Hoffy.
Well said Hoffy,I don't have a problem with anyone wearing any kind of helmet they like,German or otherwise.
My dad fought the Germans and, sadly, left his front teeth on the beach at Dunquerque during the evacuation. Maybe somewhere there's a geriatric Stormtrooper putting them to good use.
YOU GUYS ROCK! Ive been very underwhelmed with the topics on the forum lately but I think this is one of the best threads I've read since joining. very entertaining and informative - seriously. I was actually going to ask what the reasoning was behind wearing a german helmet because I always thought it was kind of anti-american but now I understand and am better for it. I just wonder how many people wearing them really do know the true symbolism behind them. VETS are great. GOD BLESS AMERICA and Harley F. Davidson.
While I agree that the original symbolism was patriotic, as is evident, many folks are unaware of the true meaning, thus leaving a bad impression. You could whack some KKK dude but would valiantly sporting his hood in accomplishment swing well with the general public?

thank you for trying to keep us all politically correct, but perhaps another hobby may be more your style... basket weaving perhaps? as long as you don't try to weave a RUSSIAN basket... damned commies!
