All you shmucks that think guys who wear german helmets are trying to emulate the ss don't know your bike history.
When WWII was over and our troops came home, they brought with them tons of german military items that the U.S.troops took right off the very bodies of ****'s they proudly killed. If you put yourself in their shoes, you would understand the powerful meaning and pride they had in these german military items. To them they were huge emblems that proudly screamed that we defeated the ****'s. Well there where a very large number of guys that had difficulty getting back into society and missed the danger and rush of war and they took to street bikes. For them, it helped make them feel more "at home", especially the troops that rode Harleys in the war. When they rode their bikes back in the States, they would proudly wear the german helmets that they brought home to display they have been to hell and back and personally took down a ****. They also displayed other german symbols besides helmets, like german spikes, their medals and badges, all kinds of german military emblems, trophies, ect..hence this is where displaying the iron cross originally came from.
So to the guys that wear german helmets, wear them proudly and know that they stand for defeating the germans and supporting the troops that took those helmets by hand.
In no way does wearing a german helmet state, "look at me, I want to be a ****".
Sorry, buy 99% of the people wearing them today have no idea of that history and have different motives. I was a cop in some of the worst ghetto areas of Brooklyn and I used to get a kick out of all the minority bikers riding crotch rockets with German helmets. I never summonsed them as I'm proud to say I never summonsed any biker, ever.
Big poppa, I actually like the Bell helmet a lot! That looks like canvas over the shell which is pretty cool, reminds me of the tactical helmet I wear at work.

I believe your statement is a stereotype saying that because where you worked they wore them for the wrong reason, than it must be the same everywhere else no matter what area of the U.S. Although I do have to agree with you that many people wear them for the wrong reasons.
You would never see me wearing one though because my last name is VERY German and I would feel akward.

Thanks for the history lesson. I had no ideal of this being the reason.

You were correct that many do not know the "true meaning" BUT I do know that one of the only photos I have of my dad was of him sitting on his Harley with a german helmet on his head. That is why I purchased mine.
LMAO! Yeah, I hear ya. It's less about being PC, more about wannabe tough guys. But that's a generalization so it may not apply to all involved parties.
Wear what you like, I do. I just don't feel the need to run around with SS bolts, iron crosses or other such nonsense. I prefer wearing one of these...
But seriously, if you want a cool looking DOT helmet I do like the looks of the Bell Drifter in Combat black. I just wish they made it without the stitching crap.
So you're saying that you like a helmet that has a skull wearing what appears to be well...a German style helmet but you don't like German helmets. Right!

Maybe you missed the part about me not liking the stitching. That is the only reason why I do not own one.
