Default RE: HD Technicians

Shovelhead Bob, ever think about moving to Seattle? We sure could use a "qualified" HD technician here. It's not that the mechanics in my area are incompetant, they just don't seem to give a **** about the customers bikes or the customers safety. Seattle HD lost my service business because of this, and Eastside HD is not far behind. At first, I thought maybe I was expecting too much from the dealership, but when I got my bike back after service scratched up, filthy dirty, and with several fastners not even hand tight, that was the last straw. If there are standards for HD techs out there, I would sure like to know what they are and who enforces them. I've come to the conclusion that a complete idiot with a service manual would be a more trustworthy mechanic than any HD mechanic in the Seattle area, and therefore this complete idiot will be doing the maintenance on his HD from now on. Unfortunately, I'm still at the mercy of the MoCo and its dealerships for any warranty work on my bike, and that's why I've been waiting for two months to have my 8 degree injectors changed. Took a month to get the injectors in. The dealer called and said "come on in, will fix it!" When I asked if they had the new download for my configuration, they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. After several days of phone calls, they finally agreed that the 25 degree injectors would require a new download. When I asked which one they order for me, they responded "stage one - legal." I then asked if I shouldn't have the "stage one - race" because I had the SE II mufflers. I've been waiting for 3 weeks for the reply from that one. I've pretty much given up. Maybe you could give Seattle and Eastside HD a phone call and clue them in?

Go to Kirkland... To the Community College.....

Guy's name is Bob Monroig......

He was my Chassis Instructor.....

He is a PHD Instructor....

And one of the best....

He is truly top notch....

Won't be able to help you with everything, but the man is a true PROFESSIONAL.....

He knows the inner workings of PHD Training, and he might be able to get you a personal Tech....

He has a few really top notch students that are his personal projects....

Those guys will go far.....

Look him up, if you feel the need......

Drop my name (Real Name) and he will probably have a coronary......

BTW, Seattle has a lousy football team, My little brother is a SgtMaj at Ft Lewis (I don't often admit that, Doggie Brother, but hey, every family has it's black sheep), and the weather is not conducive with my tanning schedule...LOL

Bob,
I'll agree with you on Ft Lewis and Seattle. I spent a summer there. Too long. Too much rain. As for the Steelers, that's where I disagree. Unfortunately, since I don't live in the Great city of Philadelphia any longer (thanks Army for building 99.9% of our bases in the south) I can't discuss the greatness of the Eagles with you personally while over some beers. Anyway, I knew all great things come from PA and you are another example. I wish more, or at least my local stealer, had guys like you. Maybe by the time I die the rest of the dealers will follow the programs and philosophy that your shop does. You would be the model HD tech if it weren’t for that damn Marine thing about you. But hey, at least you didn't join the Navy!

How would some one get a job as a HD tech? Is there an apprentice program?

Go to MMI or AMI... That is the best ENTRY LEVEL training you can get.....

Me, I didn't.....

20+ years in the Marine Corps turning wrenches on all manner of vee-hickles and such....

Plus I have been around HD's, Trumpets, Indians, and Nortons all my life.....

I was hired solely on my background and knowledge base...

I have been busting my butt to get the ratings that I need....

OKAY Bay.... What is the REAL WAY TO DO IT?????? I gotta hear this.....
