NV and AZ poeple, is this a feasable 1 day ride?
Oak Creek Canyon run is a blast; some twisties and a lot of elevation change at the north end; a tree lined run along the creek into downtown Sedona (very soothing, but it usually stinks due to dead skunks in the shade, watch your line); 89a to Cottonwood is virtually a freeway, then the climb on switchbacks to and through Jerome followed by a wild ride of switchbacks in trees down from Jerome (going west). Great ride! Almost on par with Oatman.
Hackberry is in my sig pic. Watch for it on your left, quite close to Kingman. When in Seligman, stop at the Sno Cap Drive In. That stretch of 66 is easy. Long straight run on very good condition two lane highway with no traffic.
When on 93 as you're heading south from Wikieup and about 5 miles or so before you turn off to go toward Prescott take some time to enjoy the boulders. There's one rock formation that looks like Snoopy (in fact, it's called Snoopy Rock). That type of stuff will slow you down, though, especially if you take time to take pictures and do a little hiking.
Speaking of Snoopy, I probably should have mentioned Snoopy on a Rocket, which is actually about half-way down 93 from I-40 as you're going to Wikieup, AZ. Also take some time while on 93 to see Nothing, AZ, which lives up to its name.
Be sure and get a shot of the Muffler Man in Prescott as well.
When in Seligman be sure to stop by Snow Cap Drive-In. When I was a kid we moved from Oklahoma to California and every other year we'd make the trip back. Running Route 66 "in the day" meant stopping at the Snow Cap, and the place is still there today.
Also go by the Rusty Bolt ... a unique gift shop on Route 66 in Seligman.
Also, if you run part of Rt 66 back into Williams, AZ, (west of Flagstaff) then stop by the Reg Garter Bed and Bakery. The building was built in the last 1800s and was at one point a bordello. Most of the buildings in downtown Williams are also on the National Historic registry as well, so there's plenty of history there.
Have fun and post some pics when you get back.
473 miles on state routes averaging about 55 mph because of the time off for fill ups and eating is almost 9 hours. You'll be pushing it.
In addition, you'll miss a lot because you'll have to do so much riding and not be able to stop and enjoy the sights and take it all in.
That is a two day trip if you really want to enjoy it.
But if you decide to ride this route, take some warm clothes in case. At some of the elevations, it will be cooler depending on the weather.
