Question Dallas, TX Area?

I accepted a job in Dallas and am on my way to town. Rode 500 miles today and will take the other 350 tomorrow.

Any of you Texas members have anything I need to know about the area? My bike is my primary mode of transportation, so driving a car is not an option.

Thanks.

Traffic can be bad and many inattentive drivers here. Most do not use their turn signals as their cell phone along with their hand is glued to the side of the head. Lots of pickups and SUVs...be cognizant of them and where you are in your lane. Can ride fast here. Big hangout is Stroker's (9304 Harry Hines Blvd) and a place to meet peeps, drink beer, get your bike worked on, eat some food, and get a tatoo.

We do get some cold mornings here and some days with ice and maybe a day or two with snow - hope you have "sick" days. lol

Roads can be slick when it first starts to rain...washing the fluids off of the roads. Lock your bike, keep honest people honest, but not too bad.

Yeah, I got into town yesterday and rode on the freeway and almost crapped on myself. I have not had the privedge until now. It was interesting to say the least.

I got a few locks before coming here. One is a disc lock that has an alarm if the bike is moved, a big U-lock and a heavy chain and padlock. I figure if a thief wants it bad enough, they are going to get it, but if I can make it unattractive enough or make it look like it will take awhile...

I am pretty paranoid about having it ripped off.

Texas is a great place to ride. When you get settled down check out the Hill Country rides in central Texas and all the small roads outside of the Dallas area.
Welcome to the Lone Star State.

Welcome to the metromess.

LBJ from Towneast to Hwy 80 is a disaster. HOV lane on 75 is a joke.

Harley shop in Carrolton has free beer and hotdogs every Saturday.

Check www.txdot.gov for locating buebonnets or back roads anywhere. East Texas has plenty of good roads to ride.

ROT (Republic of Texas) rally in Austin is coming up in June.

For sure dangerous to drive here, but I don't think any worse than other major urban areas. We don't have the legions of "blue hairs" you had along the Florida coasts.
Don't go down to the coast with any Florida beach expectations(white sands, crystal water), don't go near a Texas beach until your Florida beaches are a distant memory.
Go northeast or northwest of Dallas for some pleasant riding places that are much closer than Hill country, and to the southwest toward Hico and etc. towns for some good riding (and BBQ) Hint google Hard Eight BBQ...

Arkansas and southeast Oklahoma are nearby for some very very fine motorcycling ... nearly on par and sometimes better than the premier riding of North Carolina and Tenn.
If you have a bike suitable for the track, there is a world class track in Cresson, the Motorsport Ranch southwest of Ft Worth, with lots of motorcycle trackdays as well as the nearly new Eagles Canyon Raceway near Decatur (northwest). Also there are quite a few drag racing strips scattered about.
