Default Leather Jacket Fit

I really like the Harley Nevada Jacket. Quite pricey, but the wife wants me to get the jacket I want as a gift. I'm a size tweener between L and XL. Sometimes the L fits better and sometimes the XL is better. In the Nevada's case, it's exactly in the middle. The L is a smidgen too tight with the liner in and the XL is a smidgen too roomy with the liner out. Being in NE florida, I'm thinking the riding times with the liner in will be limited and it's better to have a more form fitting jacket when on the highway, so I'm leaning to the L. I think the latter is the most important factor. Anything wrong with my logic??

No, it's more that the one time I rode with a slightly too big jacket (not a riding jacket, I admit), the wind was flapping it around. I'm just seeking to confirm that the snugger fit is a better choice for riding on the road.

leather is better when it's snug. as said above, loose-fitting leather will catch the wind.

If you're still looking at other jackets, maybe try one that uses suit sizing, e.g. 40, 44 Long, 46 Short, 48, etc.

I have a Nevada jacket, like it a lot. Personally, I'd get the larger if it's that close - this jacket is heavy enough that it's not going to flap in the wind. That little extra size, coupled with the Nevada vents will keep you a bit cooler if you wear it in moderate temps.

It depends.

I've got a Fox Creek that works perfectly for cold riding. It fits the way it should (snug but not tight) when I have a sweatshirt or my Gerbings liner on underneath. It'd be huge on me if I tried to wear it with a T-shirt and no liner. I've resigned myself to the fact that I just won't be able to get one jacket that'll do warm, cool, and cold weather.

Remember, it's not a fashion accessory. It's meant to keep you warm and keep your skin on your body.

I never wear the liner of a jacket, up here in New Hampshire.

I will wear an electric jacket liner that can take me from 20 degrees, plugged in, to 50 degrees if I wear it unplugged.

I would go with looser rather than tighter, but I am a pretty big guy.

Leather can shrink.

I have the Nevada jacket too. I also like it. However 3 of the zippers are broke. I don't know how they broke...I just look and another is gone. I have a friend that has one too. Two of his zippers are broke. Just food for thought. It is a nice jacket otherwise and I've wore it thousands of miles and getting ready to put it on in a minute to ride to work...just wonderin' what zipper's gonna be next. Just thought I'd let you know. Maybe they improved 'em...I got mine 3 years ago.

I have a XL FXRG that fits perfect with the liner for cold weather riding. It is a bit loose without the liner over a T-shirt but does not flap in the wind. I think the looser fit flows air better through the vents in warmer weather. Its a trade off.

A jacket that is perfect with a liner and a sweatshirt will be loose without the liner and one that is perfect without the liner will be tight with it.

Is this jacket going to be your cold weather jacket? if yes, fit it with the liner (and a sweatshirt). It's pretty hard to ride comfortably with a jacket that is too tight. It will pull across your shoulders trying to reach the bars.

I'm in NC and a "mid weight" leather jacket is really not the best option in the summer, at least for me.

You might want to look at a mesh jacket for summer riding in Florida. Look for one with a zip out waterproof liner (replaces rain jacket). There are many quality protective textile mesh jackets available from companies like Joe Rocket and tourmaster for less than $200. Much less on E-bay.

IMHO one jacket won't cut it for year round riding.

must be a tough choice between L or XL, you should try finding coats that fit when your 6'5" and 350lbs, seems like for some reason none of the gear is a constant size either I find coats that are the same size that fit totally differant and not to mention finding something that is both BIG and TALL is nearly impossible apparently people are either short and fat or tall and thin, but not tall and fat damn guess I'm going to have to diet to get a coat that fits right!
