Sold my Honda VTX for my 08 Fat Bob a while back and lost money on the sale and paid more for my FB. Wifes perspective; 2 black bikes that make noise, so why take the loss and spend the extra money. She is happy that I am happy, and that even though I liked the Honda (it was an excellent bike), I like my FB even better. I have shared the, "how it feels, sounds, rides, etc" stuff with her and admitted some of it is the "history and American made that I like. I have mentioned that no-one, after discovering that I rode a bike has ever said, "Oh, is it a Honda (Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc)". She said it was probably because I am around "mature" types (translation, old dudes like me; 40's+).
Yesterday while at my son's second grade class (mom is the room mom and we brought snacks); two separate children asked if my bike/motorcycle was a "Harley" (they saw my helmet and knew/asked if I rode).
Again, the wife is happy that I have what I want and that I like it so much, but it was nice for her to hear what I always hear, and yes, I love answering yes!
I ride with a guys on Yamaha cruisers, a Ninja (650) and some Harleys, so I'm with the if your riding something, it's better than not riding at all, crowd. I used to answer with either, just a simple, "no, Honda", or "Honda" with no regret, but "Yes" is so much easier.
I love pretty much any bike, and rode a Shadow 1100 as a starter bike for a summer. I'll never rag on someone who's not on a harley, but most of the time when one of these guys on a metric gets asked if it's a harley they sound so ashamed when they say 'no, it's JUST a yamahondasakazuki.' Hey man, you're on two wheels...

Only way to "lose money" is if you bought it, and it sat in the garage.....
You bought a bike
you rode a bike
you bought another bike
you sold the first bike
It would be nice if the prices were stable, but once you sign on the dotted line, the bike, loses value..... except for the ride free program.... and that's for a limited time
My wife's a pre-school teacher. One day, one of her kids asked if I "rode a Harley or a motorcycle." LOL. Man, the Harley conditioning starts at a young age!

The wife doesn't ride nor cares for bikes. Would never get her into the Honda shop. But once I got the Harley, she loves to go with me to the shop. I asked her what the difference was, she said the accessories ! She loves to look at all the stuff. She still doesn't ride with me but I now enjoy the gifts she gets me from there.
